The majority of homes now have a computer or a laptop and they have become part of our way of life. Alongside this, using the Internet has become one of the most common activities among people at home. Whether it’s for finding information or doing homework, online gaming, socializing or gambling, it has something for everyone. Unfortunately, one of the most common uses not mentioned above is pornography and making sexual contacts. This can of course be without serious consequences between adults, but when children become involved it’s a whole different story.
This poses a dilemma for the home computer owner who has children. Do you allow your children to access the computer and the Internet – which is increasingly becoming required in the curriculum of schools – and potentially put them at risk, or do you ban them completely and cause undue worry and stress, trouble with school and social problems? The answer is to choose the middle ground. You can allow your children full access to the computer, but monitor and limit their activities online by using spy software on your home computer.
Using a keylogger or other software monitor, for example, will capture all the activities performed on the computer so that you can view them at your own discretion later. Some of them can be configured to only monitor certain applications such as a web browser or in the case of a computer game, could record the in-game chat, and some can be set to send the results via email if necessary. Some programs can simply record all the websites visited or which applications were run on the computer. You can also get software that specifically prohibits certain activities or content. Researching, choosing and installing spy software on your home computer is the first step to a safer home.
